A short accounting of where the data comes from, and whose marks appear on these pages.

Data sources

CFB Zeitgeist is built on CollegeFootballData.com. CFBD supplies the upstream scaffolding for every team page on this site — canonical names, mascots, conference and division assignments, FBS and FCS classification, primary and alternate color values, and the logo references that give each program its visual signature. CFBD is also the backbone of the ranking inputs: schedules, results, and the play-level records that feed the model.

Where CFBD is missing a logo variant — most often a dark-mode mark or a secondary wordmark — the ESPN content delivery network serves as a backstop. The selection is deterministic and documented in the build. As of this build, one or more primary logos are sourced directly from the ESPN CDN.

TheSportsDB is not in active use for NCAA football on this site. Their college-football coverage remains incomplete enough that relying on it would introduce inconsistency that the editorial product cannot accept.

Marks and names

Team marks, logos, wordmarks, uniforms, and institutional names are the property of their respective universities, athletic departments, and conferences. CFB Zeitgeist reproduces them in the ordinary editorial and analytical manner — to identify the team a paragraph, table, or chart is discussing. No endorsement is claimed and none should be inferred.
