“aura”
Intangible presence — a player or coach who looks the part, tracked in gains and losses.

“cooked”
Doomed, beaten, out of options — said about a team, a defense, or a matchup.
“copium”
The imaginary substance a fan base is accused of inhaling to explain away a bad result.

“CyHawk”
The Iowa vs. Iowa State game and the week around it — Cyclones and Hawkeyes fused into one word by both fan bases.

“delusional”
The charge that a fan base's expectations have come loose from its team's actual quality.
“dooming”
Catastrophising about your own team, usually in-season and usually in public.

“elite”
The contested top tier — most often deployed to argue somebody is not in it.
“fraud”
A team or player whose record or ranking is judged to overstate how good they actually are.
“glazing”
Praising someone far past what their play warrants, usually a media figure or a rival's quarterback.

“he's him”
The highest available compliment: this player is the one who decides games.

“hot seat”
Where a coach sits when the job is believed to be at risk.
“it's so over”
The despair half of the same joke — the season, the coach or the game is finished.

“let him cook”
Leave someone alone to do their thing — usually a coordinator or a hot quarterback.

“little brother”
The junior party in a rivalry, by the senior party's account.

“locked in”
Focused, dialled in, ready — said about players, teams and (jokingly) about fans watching.
“natty”
The national championship, as a thing to win or to have won.
“rent free”
Living in a rival's head — the accusation that they cannot stop talking about you.

“rev share”
Direct revenue sharing with athletes — the money mechanism, discussed as its own subject.

“tampering”
Contacting a player who is still on another roster; the accusation is more common than the proof.

“the bag”
Money — an NIL package, a collective's offer, or the payday a transfer is assumed to be chasing.

“transfer portal”
The transfer system, and by extension the act of leaving a program through it.
“washed”
Past it — a player or coach judged to have lost what they had.

“we're so back”
Declared after any good news, sincerely or as a joke, to announce that a program's fortunes have turned.
