2 defensive back for Oklahoma. 2021: 1 interception, 5 tackles.
Bryson Washington was supposed to be chasing the Doak Walker in 2025. Instead he limped through it โ in and out of games with a rotating cast of minor injuries โ and then, in a 48-hour January blur, packed up Waco for Auburn. Now he's the muscle in a backfield that's suddenly one of the SEC's most talked-about, and the only question Tiger fans actually care about is whether he can stay on the field.
The breakout was real: 1,028 yards and 12 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2024 made Washington a preseason All-American and a Doak Walker name. Then 2025 happened โ he played all 12 games but kept exiting early, finishing with 788 yards and six scores on 154 carries, a season that felt less like a step back than an interruption. So when he entered the portal on January 4, it landed as a surprise, and when he picked Auburn, 247Sports slotted him as the No. 7 running back available. Under new coach Alex Golesh โ who has been blunt that the identity is to run it early, often, and effectively โ Auburn paired Washington with returning leading rusher Jeremiah Cobb into what beat writers are calling a thunder-and-lightning duo, Cobb on passing downs, Washington on early-down and red-zone work. There's a quieter signal in our own numbers too: the buzz around him (81st percentile perception) outruns what the tape actually produced (64th percentile), a gap our model still grades as "matched" rather than hype. The forward stake is the one Auburn fans keep circling: a three-deep room means rest and rotation, which is exactly the thing a back who couldn't stay healthy needs โ but it also means he has to earn every carry he gets in 2026.
A boom-or-bust runner whose ceiling is the whole story. His explosive-run rate sits in the 70th percentile among FBS backs โ the long speed that flashed on his 41-yard runs is genuine โ but the floor is shaky: 45th percentile in EPA per carry, 34th percentile in run touchdown rate, and a brutal 62nd percentile in success rate, meaning a lot of his carries simply don't move the chains before the one that breaks open. That down-to-down inconsistency is the profile of a home-run hitter who strikes out a lot, and it's exactly why a heavy, rotational room may suit him better than a workhorse load: let him hunt the big play on early downs and let Cobb grind the steady stuff.

Concern: tackles (0th percentile).
Percentiles are versus same-position peers with enough snaps this season, based on box-score production. There are no play-by-play efficiency bars here: CFBD's play-value model credits offensive players only, so no defensive EPA exists to rank.
