The read on Oklahoma depends entirely on who you ask.

Brent Venables's year 5 (2026): 1-1, behind Bob Stoops's 10-3 in the same spot.

Oklahoma fans can't agree.

boy do they stink without him! The numbers don’t li, and our ascent (when we have competent QB play) is no coincidence.

fans believe Brent Venables is underperforming and should be replaced

Hi Joel! Could you please let us know your opinion of the pressure on Brett Venables at Oklahoma University? I don't live in OK anymore, but I've got to think that the fans there are putting him in the "it's time" category. What do you think?

Venables at # 8 is an absolute disgrace!!!! Oklahoma had arguably the hardest schedule in college football last year and they made the playoffs!!!! What an absolute joke. He's definitely not at the top, but 8 is just stupid!!!

recruiting effortLimited signal that season

fans believe JJF is a terrible assistant coach

JJF is a football terrorist, every time we would put a TE out there to block it was either penalty or a loss of yards because they can't block for shit.

JJF is the worst assistant in Oklahoma history. Our starting TE is a converted LB because he can't recruit for shit and he's an AWFUL developmental coach.

One fan believes mateer's injury reduced the team's ability to score points

I think for OU it will really depend on if we have a run game or not. Without one we were too easy to defend against and it was made worse once mateer got hurt.

scheme identityOne fan's take that season

One fan believes Oklahoma's offense is consistently strong but the defense is often unreliable

The offense had carried OU all year, and while the defense was holding their own in the 4th quarter and OT, that wasn’t the time to start trusting the defense.

scheme identityOne fan's take that season

One fan believes Brent has transformed OU's defense and improved the team's overall performance

We somehow stumbled into a baseball natty out of the (very needed) investment into the baseball program and Brent has OU playing smash mouth defense and winning games after fixing the roster.

fan moraleOne fan's take that season

One fan believes Oklahoma's defense in 2018 was among the worst in the country

2017-2018. Absolutely elite offenses with bottom 5 in the country defenses. Although 2017 I think was a better team overall with Baker at the helm (the Rose Bowl is one of the only OU games I can't rewatch) the 2018 offense with Kyler actually put up some better numbers. The defense was just even worse.

coaching decisionOne fan's take that season

One fan argues Brent Venables has underperformed expectations

I really don't understand how to look at Brent Venables coaching tenure here so far. Half of me wants him fired for some of the horse shit presented in this game and the season, but then you see the moments of excellence that shines through the shit.

coaching decisionOne fan's take that season

One fan thinks better defensive coaching would have helped him win more

If we had this defense and the Riley era offense, we could have realistically won four in a row from 2015-2018 with Baker and Kyler.
