How fan mood is read

Fan mood compares what Mississippi State fans wrote in r/CFB game threads with every FBS fanbase with enough talk that week. A week runs Monday to Sunday and is named for the game in it. The read is redrawn 300 times from the same commenters, re-ranking every fanbase each time. Sour or all in means the read sat in the bottom or top fifth in at least 70 of every 100 draws; on the sour side or on the bright side, in the bottom or top two fifths in at least 80; anything less settled is middle of the pack. A bright label also needs more positive talk than negative, and a sour one the reverse. Brighter or sourer than usual compares the week with the team's own earlier weeks, after taking out how every fanbase read that week. Each dot sits at the read's rank that week. A week read before these labels keeps the word it was first given, the fifth it sat in (sour, uneasy, mixed, hopeful or all in). Season averages are the mean of a season's reads, in fifths from sour to all in, and seasons before 2026 were read from each week's wider talk, so a comparison across seasons is rough.

What the beat said, in their own words.

The biggest thing is that the culture and the coaching staff and the team all feel right to me
Kellow · On32 days before Mississippi State's 2026 game against Texas
Over the last few weeks, I've worked every day with our medical staff and done everything possible to be out there with my teammates. Missing the rest of this season is hard to accept, but I know God has a plan. I love this team and I love Mississippi State. My role will look different these next several weeks, but my commitment to this team won't change
Taylor · FOX Sports3 days after the 15-23 game
Nobody wants to be on that field more than Kamario. I know how much this team means to him, and how much he means to this team. We'll be right there with him throughout his recovery

Uhhhhhh idk what to say because we never win away SEC games. How tf did we win that.

fans believe the team has better players this season

The defense is still very questionable. The D Line isn't getting any kind of pressure. That said, this team is far better than last season.

We look better but idk if we will survive in the SEC slate

One fan believes the offensive line has improved pass protection

The kamario heisman campaign begins tonight. But all jokes aside, the less he has to run tonight, the better I’ll feel about the o line play

Yes sir. O line looks much improved. Finally getting some real push in the run game. Protected kamario well.

One fan argues coaching changes have happened too quickly

I hate this expression. We hear it every time we fire a coach. We heard it after firing Joe Moorhead after two seasons, and we went and hired Mike Leach.

We got a lot of flack when we fired Joe Moorhead after only two seasons. People were saying this all over the place.

One fan believes ULM is a weaker opponent than typical competition

I am trying to not overreact to how we’ve done so far, because it’s ULM, but this team does feel better than last year.
