How fan mood is read

Fan mood compares what Michigan fans wrote in r/CFB game threads with every FBS fanbase with enough talk that week. A week runs Monday to Sunday and is named for the game in it. The read is redrawn 300 times from the same commenters, re-ranking every fanbase each time. Sour or all in means the read sat in the bottom or top fifth in at least 70 of every 100 draws; on the sour side or on the bright side, in the bottom or top two fifths in at least 80; anything less settled is middle of the pack. A bright label also needs more positive talk than negative, and a sour one the reverse. Brighter or sourer than usual compares the week with the team's own earlier weeks, after taking out how every fanbase read that week. Each dot sits at the read's rank that week. A week read before these labels keeps the word it was first given, the fifth it sat in (sour, uneasy, mixed, hopeful or all in). Season averages are the mean of a season's reads, in fifths from sour to all in, and seasons before 2026 were read from each week's wider talk, so a comparison across seasons is rough. 2019 and 2020 were read later, in one pass, from saved talk.

that 68 yarder is insane, especially for a high schooler still in his junior year. That's the kind of distance that actually wins games in college football so no wonder Michigan moved quick on him.r/MichiganWolverines

One fan thinks Carr can elevate Michigan’s offense long-term

Love Tommy Carr. He is one tough player and I see him becoming an elite player for Michigan in the next year or two.

One fan thinks the team’s passing offense is underdeveloped

Michigan has the best defense in college football. The offense is a project with 2 young quarterbacks.

One fan argues the replay call unfairly benefited Michigan

You're not acknowledging that NBC broadcast's game feed could have been slightly delayed compared to their clock since that hurts the narrative the refs cheated WMU and gave Michigan a chance to again.

One fan believes Bryce Underwood will change the team’s dynamics

Michigan debut Ahh we are 6 days away from I’m seeing some Michigan football. How do you think our season is gonna go do you think we will be national Champion contenders? Do you think Bryce Underwood will be the next great Michigan quarterback and of course, do you think were going to win five straight games against ❌hio State?

The days of patience and letting dudes develop is over. Bryce was a mediocre QB that cost Michigan at least five wins over the last two years.

player performanceOne fan's take

One fan believes Michigan’s defense is elite and can improve further

And what’s scary is- as the defensive line gets better at lining up correctly (there was one play where Etta didn’t shift when he was supposed to, which created a hole), and as there’s fewer communication breakdowns in the secondary, this group is going to get even better. The improvement from last year to this year on defense is absolutely remarkable

position battleOne fan's take that season

One fan is frustrated that the quarterback situation remains unsettled

But there's still real uncertainty about who's under center Week 1, which feels like it should've been settled by now given the hype Underwood came in with.

Genuinely wild that "who starts at QB for Michigan" is still an open question this deep into the offseason, whether you want to accept it or not.
