How fan mood is read

Fan mood compares what California fans wrote in r/CFB game threads with every FBS fanbase with enough talk that week. A week runs Monday to Sunday and is named for the game in it. The read is redrawn 300 times from the same commenters, re-ranking every fanbase each time. Sour or all in means the read sat in the bottom or top fifth in at least 70 of every 100 draws; on the sour side or on the bright side, in the bottom or top two fifths in at least 80; anything less settled is middle of the pack. A bright label also needs more positive talk than negative, and a sour one the reverse. Brighter or sourer than usual compares the week with the team's own earlier weeks, after taking out how every fanbase read that week. Each dot sits at the read's rank that week. A week read before these labels keeps the word it was first given, the fifth it sat in (sour, uneasy, mixed, hopeful or all in). Season averages are the mean of a season's reads, in fifths from sour to all in, and seasons before 2026 were read from each week's wider talk, so a comparison across seasons is rough.

How California fans actually talk

Rr/CFBFan talk

The fun thing about being a Cal fan, is that whenever there is a glimmer of hope for the team, they come out and drop an absolute stinker that makes you question why you still watch them!

One of the crowd’s most upvoted takes — read for mood, not as a side. The cohort read is the measured part.

One fan believes the team’s scoring output is too low

hard to see us scoring 3 pts with how our offense has looked...

One fan believes their kicker misses long field goals often

We saw last week this kicker can't come even close to making kicks over 45 yards, he doesn't have a strong enough leg. Why did they try again...

One fan argues key players are underutilized

This mf really kissed and pointed to the sky on a miss. I love JKS but he has to go for his own good, his potential is gonna get held back at Cal.

One fan thinks the team’s screen plays lack execution

Horrifically executed screen, lol. There are aspects of the team I am liking, that they keep fighting, but fuck our execution is poor.

One fan thinks play-calling is less effective this season

I thought for some reason our offensive play calling would be worlds better because we ran more often. I feel like JKS doesn't have an opportunity to shine in this offense
