Clemson is what the sport looks like when continuity wins the argument. Dabo Swinney was promoted from position coach as an interim hire in 2008, nobody else wanted the job in Clemson, South Carolina, and he built two national championships and a six-year Playoff residency out of it. Clemson produced nine 2026 draft picks and won seven games, a combination that tells you the roster was real and the record was not. Chad Morris returns as offensive coordinator. The 2026 referendum is on continuity itself. The fanbase is split down a specific fault line — faith versus fatigue. One room says Swinney earned the runway to rebuild what he built, that the architect who built it is the most qualified to restore it, and that two losing-adjacent years are not a verdict on an institution.
